Night life starts at about 11.00 pm and runs until 4 am. The happy hour aperitif ritual provides a fairly cheap start to the evening, from about 18.00 on. It can provide an alternative to dinner at the price of a cocktail (€ 5-10), with popular and Latin music providing a club-lounge atmosphere. The city's clubs are at their hippest midweek, particularly on Thursdays - at weekends out-of- towners flood in and any self-respecting Milanese trendy either stays at home or hits a bar. The hot spots for nightlife are the Navigli canal district; Corso Como; the Sempione area with Via Piero della Francesca; Porta Romana; and the Isola district, behind the Porta Garibaldi railway station. Hotels are becoming the new focal points of nightlife. Hotel Diana Majestic on Viale Piave has long been a classic for aperitifs, and more recent arrivals on the scene are the Executive Lounge at Hotel Executive, Via Sturzo (opposite the Garibaldi railway station), and the very central Bulgari Hotel. Absolut Ice Bar, Piazza Gerusalemetroe 12 (near Piazza Sempione, trams 1, 29, 30). Cloaks and boots are provided, but dress up warm as temperature inside is –5°C. Walls, bars, glasses and floors are all in ice. Open 18.00-24.00, it serves just vodka, fruit juice, and Swedish food. Open every day, booking advisable (use the website, or phone 02.8907.8531). € 15 gets you admission and one drink, and 25 minutes inside – probably just about all that you can stand anyway.
